2017 Audi Q5 Review

On the market since 2008, the Q5 is one of Audi’s oldest models still on the market and in desperate need of an update. While many thought that they would release a new car by 2015, it seems that the upcoming 2017 Audi Q5 will be the new model everyone was waiting for. The rather large delay is because Audi wanted their best selling cars to receive their all new MLB Evo platform which made the Q5 be the third one in line. This is a very good time for those looking at premium crossovers because Audi will most likely drop the prices of the current generation quite soon in order to make room for the new version which is due for release by the end of the year.

2017 AUDI Q5 REVIEW AND DESIGN

Thanks to the new platform, the upcoming 2017 Audi Q5 will be around 300 pounds lighter which might not seem like a lot but also take into account that it will be bigger. We can say this for sure because not too long ago a model was spied testing and it seems that the new generation is both wider and longer than before but the proportions are a lot better so it looks to be actually smaller and more aggressive than the ongoing model.

This is a good choice by Audi because it will allow the Q5 to distance itself from the new Tiguan which is both larger and more premium. However, unlike its smaller brother, the Q5 will still be able to offer just five seats but it should be more than enough for the target audience.

The new design scheme also seems to be in its favor, combining Audi’s new more angular design which emphasizes the aggressive characteristics of the car with a sloped roof on the new Q5 and a slightly larger body means that the upcoming model will likely be a hit.

INTERIOR

Unfortunately, at this point we don’t have any official information on the car’s interior but if we take a close look at the ongoing model and the fact that it shares a lot of its interior parts with the A4 and the A6 then it is safe to assume that the future model will be no different. This means it will likely come with Audi’s new Virtual Cockpit and with a plethora of safety and entertainment features as standard which will make it a very good deal for many people.

ENGINE

One of the saddest parts for the upcoming 2017 Audi Q5 is that on the US market it will likely not be available with a diesel engine due to all the problems the VW group had with the recent emissions scandal. However, it will come with a much better 2 liter turbocharged engine with as much as 252 horsepower and over 270 lb-ft of torque. Both the Q5 S and the RS models are going to get a newly developed 3 liter twin-turbocharged V6 with outputs ranging from 350 all the way up to nearly 500 horsepower.

These will only be available with an 8 speed automatic and all-wheel drive. In Europe on the other hand models with less powerful engines such as a 1.8 liter turbocharged petrol unit or even 2 and 3-liter diesel are going to be available while front wheel drive and a 6-speed manual gearbox are going to be offered as well in certain markets.

PRICE OF 2017 AUDI Q5

The price shouldn’t change all that much from the current generation so expect the base model to cost roughly $40,900 while in Europe the base model might be a bit cheaper due to the fact Audi is certainly going to offer lesser engines and even front wheel drive models. However, these will be offered only in certain markets and the best sellers will likely be the mid-range cars.
