2017 Ford Edge Price, Platform, Interior

The Edge is five seats mid-size crossover which has been launched by Ford for the 2014 model year. Unlike its previous version, the current model is actually available in the US as well as in Europe. The car did not change all that much since its release but it will receive a small update with the 2017 Ford Edge. So far Ford hasn’t confirmed all the new features the car will receive. However, it seems that most changes will address some of its problems. The car is expected to become better to drive as well as slightly safer. The design, engines and the rest of it will likely remain the same as before.

Platform and Price of 2017 Ford Edge

Like with Ford’s most other front wheel drive cars, the Edge uses their CD4 modular platform. This is the same that underpins the Fusion and it is one of the more refined front wheel drive platforms on the market. One of the largest changes expected for the 2017 model of the car is the steering. The current model has an adaptive steering system which is not the best out there being a bit too inconsistent. The 2017 model is expected to improve on that with a much better steering rack that will offer the driver more feedback and a more consistent feel. The car is expected to be launched by the end of the year in the US and in early 2017 for the European market. The price is likely going to increase slightly but the base model is still going to cost around $30,000.

Ford Edge Design

We can safely say that the Edge is the car that jump-started Ford’s new design scheme and because of that we don’t think it will change all that much. The 2017 Ford Edge is still likely going to receive roughly the same design as before with minimal changes. In the front, the hexagonal grille with three horizontal slats will likely be standard.

The headlights might get new LED clusters but that’s about it. Some rumors suggested that its Sports version would get a new grille, similar to that of the latest F150 Sport which offers a much more aggressive blacked out design. The Edge might also receive a few new paint options, likely a few new rims as well as a new trim level which should be revealed later this year.

2017 Ford Edge Interior

Despite looking on par with some of the best cars out there, the interior of the current model is a bit too similar to that of the Focus. Unfortunately, the 2017 Ford Edge will likely build upon that in order to save development costs. We do hope that Ford will install a better screen for the great Sync3 infotainment system. Some rumors also suggested that new safety options will be added as well as a better parking system. The latter has been requested in order to get past the car’s poor visibility due to its rather low driving position for a crossover.

Under the hood

Like before, the 2017 Edge should still continue to use the same three engines, at least in the US. The base car will get a 2 liter turbocharged inline 4 with 245 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque. Further up the range, the 3.5 liters naturally aspirated V6 is likely going to be available as well. The Sports version will continue to use the 2.7-liter twin-turbo V6. However, it seems that this time around this engine might provide 320 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque, a 5 horsepower increase over the ongoing model. The six-speed manual, as well as the optional six-speed automatic, will remain unchanged while front or all-wheel drive will be available across the range.
