Since its debut 40 years ago Fiesta has sold 16 million vehicles. It is the third best-selling vehicle manufactured by Ford, right behind Escort and F-Series. The Fiesta is a subcompact car with a front-wheel drive and it is assembled all over the world: Brazil, Russia, China, Mexico, Germany, India, etc. The sixth generation was presented in 2007 and it debuted a year later. It is based on the Ford global B-car platform and comes in three different body styles: 3 or 5-door hatchback, 4-door saloon and 3-door van. Now, there are speculations about the upcoming model, the 2018 Ford Fiesta, which is going to have several significant innovations. Although we don’t know everything about it, here is the latest information.
2018 Ford Fiesta Spy Photos
Yeap, new Fiesta was spotted on the streets. It was quite obvious it was since even though it was heavily camouflaged. Despite the camo, we could spot a few interesting things. First of all, there are some modifications of the exterior that are more than welcome. Everyone was wondering when Ford is going to refresh this subcompact car and we can finally say that 2018 model will get some improvements. New Fiesta will be a modern good-looking car and it will definitely attract more customers than its predecessor.
Exterior Design
If you put the 2018 Ford Fiesta and the previous model side by side you will immediately notice what has been changed. Even though it was camouflaged the difference is obvious. Luckily, they didn’t cover the grille which is a completely new feature. They probably left this radiator grille deliberately uncovered. The top part of the grille has been decreased in size, while the bottom part has been increased. New headlights are added and there are new lines on the front fascia. At back, horizontal lights were placed rear bumper has been modified as well.
Interior Design
As you are probably expecting, nobody caught a glimpse of the cabin. It might not be even finished. However, as far as we are concerned they need to upgrade the SYNC 3 infotainment system. It will be equipped with Smartphone integration, music streaming, and satellite navigation. Many hope interior will follow the exterior in terms of changes so it might get a totally new look.
Engine
It is way easier to talk about exterior design than what is hidden under the hood. Ford is still keeping this detail off the record and there are no indications when it will publish what unit is going to power up the 2018 Ford Fiesta. However, there are some speculations telling us that it will have several optional engines. The base unit should be the 1.0-liter EcoBoost three-cylinder with 123 horsepower and 125 lb-ft of torque. Apart from this engine, there should be at least two or three more.
Instead of a 1.6-liter that is used in the ST trim new unit might be introduced. Rumors tell us that a 1.5-liter with additional power and torque may take its place. When it comes to diesel engine a 1.5-liter is still going to be part of the lineup with either 75 or 90 horsepower. The RS trim will probably share the engine with the Ford Focus ST. This means it will have either a 1.5l or 2.0l under the hood with over 250 horsepower. This is going to be the top engine of the lineup. In terms of transmission, we can only say that in our opinion it should be either a six-speed manual or six-speed PowerShift automatic. EPA rating will probably slightly change, but don’t expect huge improvements in this field.
Price and Arrival
The 2018 Ford Fiesta is expected to hit the market in a year from now, or in the second half of 2017. Price will probably be higher than the price of the current model hence it might reach $17,000.
