The Volvo XC60 is perhaps the most popular vehicle coming from Swedish car manufacturer. It’s been with us for around eight years and three years ago it faced a huge redesign. Nevertheless, Volvo decided to launch the next generation of XC60 which its first member will go under the name of the 2018 Volvo XC60. Thanks to an anonymous photographer we have a chance to see this vehicle when it was being tested on the streets of Amsterdam. Although many things are still unknown there are some rumors and estimations.
2018 VOLVO XC60 TESTING
We are not exactly sure when were these pictures taken, but based on the background it seems they were taken in either spring or summer this year. They were taken in Amsterdam and we don’t have a clue why Volvo decided to test new XC60 there. Perhaps because Amsterdam looks beautiful in spring, at least it looks more beautiful than Gothenburg. The car was camouflaged hence we couldn’t take a close peek at it, but we have managed to draw some conclusions. We hope you will appreciate this article since we had to put a lot of effort in order to complete it.
EXTERIOR
So, what can see in these pictures? You must admit that they heavily camouflaged the vehicle preventing us from seeing even the smallest details. All we can see is that design won’t drastically change. It will have pretty much the same shape as before. If you look closer you’ll spot taillights which seem narrower comparing to the current model. Besides this two everything else remains a mystery. However, we do expect a huge overhaul. Perhaps 2018 Volvo XC60 will have some new lines and curves and maybe even headlamps and fog lights are going to be redesigned.
INTERIOR
The cabin of the 2018 model will be based on SPA platform. Thanks to this platform it is going to have more space for both cargo and passengers. This will increase the overall convenience. Seats and dashboard should be slightly redesigned. Touch panel should be much wider than the current model. Supposedly these are all changes of the interior this model will have.
POWERTRAIN
As you might have expected, Volvo hasn’t released any info regarding the engine. However, they have (perhaps deliberately) revealed what was under the hood of the car tested in Amsterdam. One of our sources took an extra mile and checked the license plates of the tested model and got information about the engine. According to this source, the tested model had a 2.0l gasoline T5 which generates 245 hp. However, this doesn’t mean 2018 Volvo XC60 is going to use this engine. It’s more likely to come with several options for different markets.
Some of the possible choices are four-cylinder gasoline or diesel and even a three-cylinder unit. The power of the top unit shouldn’t exceed 320 hp. Some experts even noticed a square hole on one of the fenders which could be an access for a plugin. This means new XC60 might come as a hybrid or even electric car. However, we don’t believe in these rumors. A hybrid vehicle is possible, but there is no chance Volvo is going to launch an all-electric XC60. We’re still waiting for the official announcements and we are especially looking forward to hearing the EPA rating.
2018 VOLVO XC60 PRICE AND RELEASE DATE
Present model costs between $36,600 and $47,200. Considering that 2018 Volvo XC60 is coming with several important improvements it’s natural to expect it is going to cost few thousand dollars more. Even though we are ignorant about the release date we are sure it won’t arrive soon. The best predictions tell us it will hit the road in 2018.
