The last uplift of Mazda CX-9 happened in 2006 and since then we haven’t seen any important updated. There were some refreshments here and there, but nothing too important. Since 2006 only a bumper, headlights and grille have been slightly redesigned. Customers were begging for a huge overhaul and finally, Mazda lend an ear to them. 2017 Mazda CX-9 is coming with outstanding design, different than anything we could see in years that passed.
Modifications
However, we didn’t even scratch the surface. Apart from stylish modifications, there will be one huge change under the hood. Until 2008 Mazda was using 3.5l six-cylinder when it decided it’s time for a new 3.7. This year managers at Mazda believe it’s time for a totally different unit which is going to contribute to the overall performance of the vehicle. Actually, horsepower will be reduced, but more lb-ft of torque is added and fuel efficiency is expected to be improved. As part of the second generation, new 2017 Mazda CX-9 will be based on a design created by Kodo company. This design brings new features, especially to the interior.
Exterior
This concept is known as Koru concept and new 2017 Mazda CX-9 takes numerous features after it. It looks both elegant and aggressive. Headlights are thinner than most of the cars in the class, and the front grille is quite big. Apart from these changes bumper is also going to be restyled. Actually, the new one appears to be totally different than last year. It looks a bit sporty which is very unusual for this segment. Rear bumper and taillights take after CX-5 and are not part of the original Korea concept. The color palette is quite big with seven different colors offered.
2017 Mazda CX-9 Interior
Design modifications are focused on the interior. Cabin looks luxurious and is equipped with certain features you won’t see in other cars. Interior depends on a buyer’s wish since new 2017 Mazda CX-9 can even order with Japanese rosewood. However, aluminum and wood accents can be found in every model. Comfort is not a matter of discussion because this model might be the most comfortable ever designed. If you pay attention to the sound system then you must know new Bose premium audio system is part of the cabin.
Performance and Specs
Mazda is ditching the 3.7l this year and is introducing new SkyActiv Engine. Although new unit offers 23 horsepower less, its general performance is much better comparing to the previous engine. Under the hood of the 2017 Mazda CX-9, a 2.5l l-4 will be placed. This unit is able to produce 250 HP and 310 lb-ft of torque. The previous model could deliver 270 lb-ft thus this is a significant increase in torque. Six-speed automatic gearbox remains unchanged. On the other hand, i-Active AWD is optional. This special drive system is equipped with 22 sensors which scan road conditions and sends 50% of all power to rear wheels.
EPA rating is definitely going to be improved however, the exact figures are still unknown. Naturally, engine contributes to fuel efficiency, but there is one more important factor. The weight of the car has been reduced and this reduction depends on the drive system. CX-9 with FWD is 198 lbs lighter than before while with AWD it loses 287 lbs. This is a significant decrease in weight since EPA rating might be even stunning. 2017 Mazda CX-9 should be one of the most efficient cars coming from Mazda factories this year and a high-flier in terms of fuel consumption.
2017 Mazda CX-9 Release Date and Price
If you are going to buy 2017 Mazda CX-9 you must spend around $30,000 for the base model. Although costs are already known, we’re still ignorant about the release. Some sources tell us it can even come in autumn this year. However, we must be careful with these allegations.
