2017 BMW M4 Price Design Engine Spy Photos

The M4 is the spiritual successor of the original M3 but BMW decided to give the coupe an entirely new name. The car has been released back in 2013 in order to compete directly with the Audi RS5 and the Mercedes C63 AMG Coupe. The three cars are priced really similarly with the 2017 BMW M4 starting at just over $67,000 in the US for a base model. This is more than enough to get yourself one of the best cars to drive in the World. However, because the car has been released more than three years ago, it is no longer up to date and some of its newer rivals are better equipped and even nicer to drive.

THE DETAILS

In order to change that it seems that the upcoming 2017 BMW M4 is going to be the first major refresh for the car. Even though BMW hasn’t said so, the car spied testing was wearing quite a bit of camouflage which suggests that it will also get a revamped exterior. We also expect some interior upgrades and possibly an updated engine but that’s quite unlikely at this point. The price for the new car should stay the same as before with the future GTS still being priced at well over $100,000 which puts it in the same territory with the 911 GT3.

Despite being updated, the upcoming 2017 BMW M4 is expected to receive pretty much the same running gear as before. We would have expected it to receive something better but it is unfortunately based on a rather old platform. The all new M4 will be released in 2024 and it will feature the new CLAR architecture but until then, the current car’s chassis and running gear will carry on unchanged.

DESIGN

Like we previously mentioned, it seems that the 2017 model of the car will also bring a few cosmetic changes. The camouflaged car spied a while ago featured a new front bumper with larger air intakes as well as new headlights and tail lights. Due to the camouflage, it is hard to tell if anything else changed but it might receive a new splitter and possibly a new front grille as well.

INTERIOR

Inside the cabin, we should see a similar story. While the actual design of the car is not going to change all that much, the equipment levels will. For starters, the new M4 is expected to receive BMW’s updated infotainment system. On top of that, it should come with more standard features such as the traffic jam assist which has been released quite recently.

2017 BMW M4 ENGINE

Even though not official, we are quite sure that the 2017 BMW M4 will continue to use the same 3 liters twin-turbocharged straight six as before. This engine currently makes a rather impressive 425 horsepower and 550 Nm of torque in the most basic model which is enough for a 0 to 60 MPH time of just 4.3 seconds. Currently, there are two other power states available. The Competition package which bumps the power to 444 horsepower while the GTS model will get that even higher at 493 horsepower. The latter has been achieved by adding a port water injection system which has a dedicated 1.3-gallon tank under the trunk’s floor. This is expected to last up to 7 fills ups in normal conditions which are enough for most people. The best part is that when the water is gone, the engine will revert back to the 444 horsepower tune without any harmful effects. The 2017 model should carry over these engines pretty much unchanged. We might see a small difference to the car’s automatic gearbox which may receive a more aggressive software than before.
