2017 Nissan GT-R

Many people hoped, or at least thought, about a new version of the GT-R. This has been released back in 2007 and even though it received incremental updates since then, it is the same basic as the one released nearly a decade ago. Quite recently the car has been updated with the 2017 Nissan GT-R and even though it has been heavily reworked, it no longer is the high tech machine it was before. In fact, it is now one of the less powerful supercars on the market and even though it still is fast, it is no longer the fastest.

This is mostly because its chassis and engine-aged quite a bit and the latest update didn’t really manage to bring everything back to life. However, this doesn’t mean the GT-R is bad. In fact, it still is one of the best buys for just $105,000, a price where cars like the Porsche 911 can’t really touch it. Nissan will be releasing the new model in showrooms in the next few months while the Nismo version should be out by the end of the year.

EXTERIOR

Let’s now take a closer look at all the updates Nissan did to their GT-R. To start it all off, the exterior of the car has been heavily revised and while it may not look like it, the entire front end is all new. The fenders, front bumper, headlights, grille, hood and even splitter are all new. The hood offers a slightly more imposing bulge, the fenders are slightly wider while the front bumper offers a more aggressive approach.

This not only improved the aerodynamics of the car but it also makes the 2017 Nissan GT-R look arguably better than before. The design of the wheels is new as well while the back has been slightly revised with new tailpipes, tail lights, and a slightly more subtle spoiler.

INTERIOR

Thanks to all of those changes, the car still looks quite fresh for its age and it should allow it to be kept on the market until an all new version will be released closer to 2024. Its cabin received, even more, love than the car’s body. Here, the dashboard has been revised completely. It no longer looks like a PlayStation with a sea of buttons.

Instead, there is an all-new infotainment system and the number of buttons has been reduced by half. This makes the interior feel better than before and all the controls are quite a bit easier to use as well.

ENGINE

The heart of the Godzilla hasn’t changed as much as we would like in the past years. The 2017 Nissan GT-R still uses the same 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V6 petrol engine. This now puts out a rather average 565 horsepower and 467 lb-ft of torque which is still more than enough to allow the GT-R to hit 60 MPH in 2.9 seconds and go up to a maximum top speed of 195 MPH which is quite impressive for its price tag. A 6 speed dual-clutch automatic is still offered as standard and Nissan’s great all wheel drive system controlled by a computer is being offered as well.

The Nismo uses the same engine as the regular version of the GT-R. However, in this particular application, it makes 600 horsepower and over 470 lb-ft of torque which should allow for much better 0 to 60 MPH times as well as a higher top speed. The selling point of the Nismo though has to be its running gear. This has been tweaked to perfection in order to make the car as fast as possible around a track. On top of that, it also gets a unique interior with nicer seats and red stitching on gray or black Alcantara which really sets it off.
