Buick set the world on fire with the Riviera concept three years ago and positioned itself as an innovative manufacturer on the market. That concept really blew our minds and all of those who were lucky to see it in person at the 2013 Shanghai Motor Show. This auto manufacturer doesn’t have concepts as impressive as Riviera, but there is one much more sophisticated than Riviera. Buick Avista was presented at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show and its popularity has been constantly rising since then. Therefore, we decided to take a closer look at this magnificent sedan.
Buick Avista Preview
This article targets all of you who are interested in new Buick Avista and didn’t have a chance to attend the Motor Show in Shanghai. Comparing to Riviera, Avista looks less futuristic and its design is not exceptional. It takes after several different concepts, especially on Avenir Concept. This concept was originally implemented in 2017 Buick LaCrosse and new Avista shares some external characteristics with it. It might be a combination of few concepts, but there are some unique features. In this short review, we are going to try to present the most important ones.
Design
As you already know, Buick Avista shares some features with Avenir concept. The most notable are grille and rear fenders. The front grille is wider and unusually flat. Generally, new Avista looks more aggressive, especially the rear part. Exhaust tips are enormously big while taillights remain sharp and slender. All doors are longer than usual while the windows remained relatively small. Huge wheelbase contributes to the overall aggressiveness. Avista is going to have split-spoked 20-inch long wheels. If these wheels look familiar to you, you are not wrong. They are exactly the same wheels used in new Chevrolet Camaro.
Buick always has great design solutions for the cabin. Interior is very elegant and futuristic. The Large touch panel is placed on the dashboard and it operates most of the features inside the cabin via IntelliLik system. Well-designed seats provide extra comfort and convenience. There are so many additional features then come in handy, such as aromatherapy and ionic air purifiers. The air-quality system has been reduced and they put a lot of effort to improve noise-reduction.
Drivetrain
Buick opted for only one powertrain for the Buick Avista, although it would be nice to have at least two different choices. This time they chose a 3.0l six-cylinder. We still don’t have all data about the engine, but it is known this unit should pump up approximately 400 HP. Torque and towing capacity are still being kept off the record. Top speed looks quite decent while the acceleration is staggering. 0-60 mph time is estimated at 4 seconds! Outrageous! Some of you may not be impressed since there are so many faster cars. However, you must take class and size into consideration and you’ll get the full picture.
Thanks to the Active Fuel Management System this car has managed to reduce its fuel consumption. It’s a great technology that enables powerful cars to have fuel economy lower than expected. Buick Avista is also equipped with Stop-Start technology and Magnetic Ride Control. An 8-speed automatic transmission is the only available option and the power is transmitted to rear wheels. All in all, it is obvious they lend an ear to their customers, but it would be nice to see a manual transmission as an option in the years ahead.
Buick Avista Release Date
The Buick Avista has classy and sporty design, top-notch interior and high-performance engine under the hood. However, this concept might not even enter the production lines. It is just a concept for now and although we have seen it in Detroit, Buick is still in two minds whether to launch or not. We can just hope they won’t abandon such a great concept.
