2018 Toyota Supra Spy Photos, Release date, Price

Despite the fact the first generation of the Supra was nothing more than a Celica with a slightly bigger engine, the last one managed to become a true icon thanks to its 2JZ engine and great looks which made it a star in a few Hollywood movies as well as a favorite for anyone wanting a true Japanese supercar. Unfortunately, since 2002 the model has been missing from the market and despite the fact, Toyota was releasing back in 2007 a concept car that was meant to be the new Supra. Nearly a decade later, 2018 Toyota Supra is still missing from the market. This is because Toyota decided not to build the Supra all by themselves and instead they went to BMW in order to start a partnership for a new sports car.

2018 TOYOTA SUPRA RELEASE DATE AND PRICE

This new car would later become the new Z5 (Z4 replacement) as well as the future 2018 Toyota Supra which is going to be mechanically identical to the BMW but it will look vastly different. While there aren’t any official details available about the car’s engine or even design, it seems that the new Supra will not be the current FT-1.

Instead, not too long ago a heavily camouflaged BMW was spied testing in the winter and some suggested that this is, in fact, the upcoming Supra. This is because BMW doesn’t really have a car to resemble the exterior size which is smaller than the original Supra and quite a bit smaller than many other cars on the market. Thanks to a really compact design Toyota should be able to provide a really striking car to look at. When it will be released in late 2017, the car’s price will likely be set at well over $50,000 if the rumors about its engine turn out to be true.

ENGINE

Just like with the latest generation of the Supra which was available with two inline 6 engines. The upcoming 2018 Toyota Supra is also going to be available with two different powertrains. The base version of the car is expected to hit the market equipped with a 3-liter turbocharged inline 6 petrol engine, the same as that on the 340i. This particular unit will be able to develop around 340 horsepower and over 300 lb-ft of torque which should be more than enough for a car that weighs less than 2,800 pounds.

The other option is going to mate the same 3-liter engine with a set of two electric motors that are going to power the rear axle directly. The end result for this one will be around 480 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque which is not nearly as much as some other supercars out there but then again, the Supra won’t have to beat a Ferrari. It will just have to be great to drive and to be able to beat its direct rivals such as the Porsche Cayman or even the BMW Z5.

DESIGN OF 2018 TOYOTA SUPRA

Just like those two cars, the 2018 Toyota Supra will be available as a two-seat couple and that’s about it. Some suggested that Toyota might add a convertible or even a target version of the car which would, in fact, make a lot of sense considering that the last generation of the car was available with a target version. The rest of the design is likely going to be influenced by that of the FT-1 concept car, but instead of the active aerodynamics present on that car, the production Supra will likely feature a large fixed rear wing. It will also have slightly more toned down design in order to be able to appeal the larger amount of people and not just at the Supra owners and fans.

  1. Toyota please dont put a BMW lump in the next gen Supra. The Supra needs its own heart and soul, let alone being built on a Z4 Platform.
1993 Toyota Built there best ever car all on there own with there engines being bullet proof.
I fear you are going to loose so many Supra fans there are two Categorys that divide people in buying cars of today that is if you want build Quality you go german if you want reliabilty you buy Japanese.
Where is the sense on removing Toyota’s greatest title reliability and putting a BMW engine in its place.
